The Voice
Powerful, distinctive, authentic.
Biography
For more than four decades, Thomas “Tommy” Laasch has lived and breathed heavy metal. Influenced by the classic giants of the 70s and 80s, he has built a reputation as a powerful frontman with a distinctive voice, an energetic stage presence, and an unwavering passion for live performance. After successful years with bands such as Black Demon, Backwater and Chinchilla, he joined CAVE and brought a new chapter of experience, authenticity and charisma to the band.
Born in Eutingen and raised in Sindelfingen, Tommy discovered rock music through his older brothers. Bands like Sweet and ABBA sparked his interest before KISS, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest became lifelong inspirations.
Although he originally intended to become a guitarist, it quickly became obvious that his real instrument was his voice. In 1984 he founded his first band, Black Demon, performing classic heavy metal while taking his first steps on stage. Entirely self-taught, Tommy developed his vocal technique through years of rehearsals, concerts and studio work.
His musical journey continued with Backwater, where he recorded his first professional album, followed by many successful years with Chinchilla. Throughout his career he has shared stages with renowned artists, appeared at festivals such as Bang Your Head and Wacken, toured with established bands and built a reputation as a confident and charismatic frontman.
His connection with CAVE started through bassist Roberto Palacios. After initially declining because of other commitments, Tommy later became the band’s backup vocalist before eventually taking over as permanent singer. What convinced him immediately was the exceptional songwriting, the musicianship and the international character of CAVE’s sound.
Today Tommy considers music not simply a hobby but “as essential as the air I breathe.” His motivation remains unchanged: writing outstanding songs, recording new albums and bringing them to audiences on stage.
